ELECTRICITY BILL SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF PHCN AUCHI QUARTERS)

 ABSTRACT

This research work examines the “Preparation of Electricity Billing Methods” the institution under study gives an historical background of Electricity Billing Method of (the case study used by Researcher). Also, the organization structure of the division (Auchi Division) was examined. The methodology applied in the course of writing this project is given while the procedure of system analysis and design is also given. The finding reveals the importance of the proposed system in the PHCN Electricity Billing System.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0      INTRODUCTION
Electricity billing system can be said to consist of procedures enrolled in payment of bills by way of banks.
The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has made setting of bills easier, hence the introduction of the Bank Revenue Collection System to compliment the operations of the cash offices in PHCN premises. This program is to facilitate prompt and regular settlement of the PHCN’s Monthly bills, as customers are no longer expected to travel far outside their neighborhoods to settle PHCN’s Bills.
1.1   BACKGROUND OF STUDY
The Electricity billing system involves the responsibilities of developing, maintaining an efficient co-ordinate and economic system of electricity supply to all parts of the federation.
The placed responsibility on electricity is used for computerization and development information system to enhance its growths, the development of electronic data processing in modern day to day transaction, is a basic and a fundamental focus in an organization like PHCN. The human element needed to be augmented side by side with the upgrade operation system that sure intellectual capability and skill for organization like electricity to survive; there is need for emerging and development within its environments. The way to achieve this is by embracing the computerization of its billing system. The system would contribute at full course value to the effort of the organization. It will help in the area of proper documentation of accounting records as well as ensuring adequate, efficient and reliable billing system. This will eliminate the problem of embezzlement in the organization.
In May 31st 2005, NEPA was changed to PHCN (Power Holding Company of Nigeria).
It is geared at giving maximum customer satisfaction and a better electricity production.
1.2   STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
This is a common fact to everybody that electricity makes life more meaningful and at such everybody wants to enjoy a stale and efficient electricity supply.
The supply of electricity and is operations in the society can enhance the social-economic life of the citizens and for the country’s economic in general. The questions go thus,
1.  Is the security getting benefits of this basic amenity?
2.  Has PHCN been able to carry out an effective billing system that measure up to the power consumed by the citizen?
3.  Can electronic equipments such as computer aid in processing of weekly, monthly, or yearly bills for its consumers and to keep adequate record of such bills.
1.3   PURPOSE/AIMS OF THE STUDY
The Aims and objectives of electricity bills or maintain a working are to distribute, enhance and maintain a working electricity sector around the nation, block several leakages through efficient security and to make payment of electricity bills easier to the general populace.
It also aims to identify the possible problems that affect electricity billing system and the limitations to manual billing system in order to introduce a proper billing that measures up to the power supply and the benefits of such a computerized billing system.
1.4   SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The nature of the organization of PHCN and its function compels the Research work to be carried out within the scope of the commercials department, which is responsible for the raising of bills and distribution to customers mostly.
This study is restricted to PHCN serving Auchi’s customers. The write-up of the course was combined and put together alongside the different ideas in each of the chapters. These are as follows
1.5   SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study intends to design an effective and proper, productive, reliable and comprehensive billing system for PHCN. Since data processed manually will not produce reliable results, the benefits that are derivable from the program can be said to be evaluated with an indebt analysis of their consequences.
The various will include:
1.  Identification of existing billing system and the modalities for operating them.
2.  Analysis of the productivity and the efficiency of the computerized billing system.
3.  Analysis of feedback that was collected from beneficiaries of a new practiced electricity billing system.
1.6   LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The major limitations of this study include:
·        Time
·        Feedback from the society
·        Lack of information
1.7   DEFINITION OF TERMS
ADDRESS: An address is a number that identifies a location in the computer memory.
ANALYSIS: The analysis is the process of examining, identifying or separating a complex to isolate.
APPLICATION: The system or problem to which the computer is applied.
DATA: The data is a general term used to signify the entire basic information element that can be produced by a computer
ELECTRICITY: Electricity is known as the flow of electric current or charges from one point to the other.
ELECTRIC FIELD: An electric field is a region of space where a charged body experiences an electric force
ELECTRIC CURRENT: An electric current, I, is defined as the rate of flow of electric charge along a conductor.
