A PROPOSED LANDSCAPED DESIGN FOR CAMPUS 1, AUCHI POLYTECHNIC AUCHI

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research work is to evaluate the various resources positions of what the landscaping around the building so as to create a design that would help solve the problem in various buildings and its environment which was viewed during the case study carryout by the researcher.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0     INTRODUCTION
Land is an affront to nature. When land is cleared, there every tendencies of survival of plant life because it soon grows. Unless the  soil is infertile or the climate outside the range of life any strip of cleared land will soon be covered with foliage.
A wild landscapes will be filled by willed plants are particularly attractive or desirable. Control must be exerted over the growth on any section of earth. If the site is meant for physical development all growing plants comes under the management of the inhabitants/home owner. This brings to bare challenges of landscape planning selection, and maintenance on the desirable on any plants on land use. Hence aesthetics is a sine quannon of a balanced environment. Order and beauty of mans surroundings are as much a prerequisite to go human health as fresh air. Therefore landscape design is a profession which applies the artistic and the scientific principles to research, design and management of both natural and built environment. Practitioner of this profession applies a creative and technical skill, scientific and political knowledge.
In the plant arrangement of natural and constructional element and human resources. The resulting element serves as useful aesthetic, safe and enjoyable purpose.
Landscape design can also be seen as an art and science of shaping mans need as well as restricting of manmade element or features in order to bring them into a closer harmonious with nature. It is an area of specialization that involves the beatification of the environment. Landscape design collaborates with a related discipline such as Architecture, geography, soil and civil engineering, surveying, botany and artesian specialties.

1.1                      STATEMENT  OF RESEARCH PROBLEM
Nigeria as a nation has so many problems when it comes to carrying out a researched work, in this researched some problem encountered are:
v    The challenges for   the quest of materials were done during the harsh weather.
v    Some reference materials were unable to reach the researcher.
v     The search for t a landscape design was rear.v    There was a problem of getting validated deals from the interviewees where case studies were carried out.
v    There was no pedestrian walk way.
v    There was no amusement park for students as well as staffs.

1.2                      JUSTIFICATION AND ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
The significant of this researched work is to solve the landscaped problem most buildings are facing in terms of functionality poor relaxation and accessibility.
Architecture is a profession that has to do with the creativity and designing of both natural and built environment for human habitation. One of the most relevance of architecture is the construction of natural and artificial element and bringing them a closer harmony with nature it also deals with the specialization and space provision and putting into consideration the people lifestyle which is one of the main avenue social attraction and mainly full of intellectual development.

1.3                      AIMS AND OBJECTIVE.
The motives behind this research work is to observe the economic, social, and architectural structure whether public or private in architectural view to proposed a well landscape design for the Federal polytechnic Auchi, making the school of environmental as a reference for the students and for staffs comfort and convenience. The objective of this research work is to have a well and a functioned landscape design which consist of all modern basic element to create suitable environment that is properly arranged to suit climatic condition in terms of relaxation, ventilation, lightening and convenience in order to increase the life span of human being.

1.4                      SCOPE OF STUDY
The scope of this study is the arrangement of natural and constructed element with the concern for the conservation of natural, artificial and human resources, the resulting landscape element serve as useful, aesthetic, safe and enjoyable purpose but also for functionality an economic requirement.

1.5                      RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
To have a concurrent and validated research work I wish to adopt a series of methods in order to maintain good data.
v    I will undergo oral/written interview with landscaped architect or landscape designer in Nigeria and foreign countries to be able to achieve principles somas to create validated and tested researched work.
v    I will also embark case study where visitation will be made to some landscape architect where photography will be taken, showing places of particular on how the building look like, making sketches of already existing building to landscape where necessary.
v    I will make the website and the academic library my reference point where I can have access to reading books, journal, magazines, document, newspapers that would be exhausted.

1.6                      LIMITATION OF STUDY
·        The materials for carrying out my research work were limited.
·        Lack of funds as a regard to the research work.
·        There was no good mobility.

1.7     DEFINITION OF TERMS
Fore court: These are open spaces which act as buffers between residential building and non-residential building for courts are usually bounded by street it is recommended that is planted parallel to tree.
Green belt: they run along the perimeter of a neighborhood or town and set service to buffer it surroundings not comparable such as highway corridor, or to buffer it from agricultural area, green belt are less natural but it may include walking trails.
Hedges: hedges can be defined as a living fence made up of closely space planted; they are used for protection enclosure and boundary marker or a back drop to shield a view. It may be natural or it can be prime.
Garden: These are area of land primarily used for growing flowers trees and shrubs, it may be grouped into ornamental or vegetative plant e.g. provides shade (protection) from the winds.
Lawns: These are lands that are densely covered by ground cover.
Shrubs: are small   plants such as bushes and has several stem. The stem arises from the base.
Climbers: climbers are plants that have the ability to climb surface they are to sharpen the sharp line of a building.
Water fountains: Water fountains are source of spring water. It pours water   into a basin or jets it into the air supply drinking water and for decorative and dramatic effect.
Parking lots: These are parking space location that is designated either paved or unpaved; parking space can be in parking garage in parking lots or in a city or street.
Drainage: These are natural or artificial removal of surface and sub surface water from an area. It can be a drainage above the ground level or drainage below the ground level.
Pathways: these are ways that constitutes or serve as paths, this can be accessible to the building.
Amusement park: These are large outdoor area with fair grounds rides shows, refreshment games of chance or skills and other entertainment.
