A PROPOSED ULTRA MODERN HOUSE FOR THE RECTOR OF AUCHI POLYTECHNIC, AUCHI

ABSTRACT
Ultra modern houses are designed to achieve comfort and stability in residential buildings. The purpose of this research gear toward creating a design concept that is up to date, present styles and bringing a lot of solution to modern design (20th century) as a result of technology, development and improvement of Architecture to our environment to solve the problem of poor ventilation, inadequate spacing, lighting in the building, poor orientation of buildings on site to increase the conformability of man in his environment.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0           INTRODUCTION
A Rector is the overall Head of (academic and administrative) of a polytechnic. He or she occupies a prestigious position, as all officials matters of the institution are anchored by him or her.
Considering the importance and prestigious position of the rector, it’s become important to provide an eco friendly design for the rector to satisfy her interest.
As a matter of necessity the rector’s house ought to evoke and reflect the status and prestige of both the rector and the institution at whole.
An ultra modern rectors house is an official house/dwell design and built for the chief executive of a polytechnic, using an extremely modernize design or recent Architectural style to achieve comfort and conveniences for the rectors.

1.1           STATEMENT OF RESEARCH PROBLEM
The choice of an ultra modern building for the rectors of Auchi Polytechnic Auchi was to provide a structure that is architecturally pleasing and equipped with modern household equipment to ensure his/her function in relation to his/her status.

1.2           JUSTIFICATION AND ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE
The architectural design significance and justification of this project was to design and if possible construct a building that meets the social status of the rector, with the view of solving all the issues in the present residential building of the rector, which is gradually paving way as a result of modern technology and construct technique in architecture with the view of setting high standard in design and maintenance of structure.
The Architectural significance and relevance of this research project are:
·        To achieve the present style of architectural design
·        To create comfort with adequate modern building facilities for the rectors.

1.3           AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of this project are aimed at achieving an ultra modern building design for the rector having the following in mind:
i)                  To develop a concept of living in a classic and social world.
ii)                To achieve a warm concept that allows living in harmony with the built environment.
iii)             To meet the growing style of modern architecture
iv)             To explore improvement of technology with the use of modern building equipment, styles and facilities.

1.4           SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study covers Auchi Polytechnic Auchi, A Federal Polytechnic in Etsako West Local Government Area Auchi, where the Chief Executive Officer of the Polytechnic (Rector) lives. The design which is ultra modern in nature with the following spaces enclosed in the building design
i)                  The car porch
ii)                Anteroom
iii)             Guest room
iv)             Kitchen
v)                Dining room
vi)             Study room
vii)           Children living room
viii)        Stair hail
ix)              Living lounge etc.

1.5           RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
In other to achieve a successful research work for this project, I employ a number of methods in order to obtain enough information. The methods are as follows:
i.                    Studies were carried out by me on the site, which help me in analysis the physical features present on such facilities.
ii.                 Case study: This is the visit to the rector’s lodge and surveyor Thomas Ogunobo’s resident to have a look on the special requirement and what an ultra modern building should look like. In other to notes some of the demerit in an existing building, so that it’s can be corrected on the proposed design.
iii.               The used of Questioner: Questioner was administered to the supervisor, in the rector’s lodge under construction, to have a view of the design brief of the building under construction.
iv.               The used of secondary method: This involved research from internet, journal, textbooks and magazines etc.

1.6           LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
Limitation of study are problems encountered during the project research, the following are the limitation in carryout this research work.
-         Insufficient fund.
-         Accessibility: Access to rector’s lodge was had to come by after four consecutive visits.

1.7            DEFINITION OF TERMS
The following are terms related to the design topic
BEDROOM: This are rooms where people sleep the size of bedroom varies depending on the taste and who will occupy the bedroom. For example the master bedroom, should be bigger than other bedrooms in the house, the master bedroom should have a wardrobe an inbuilt closet, for comfort and conveniences.
GUEST ROOM: This is a room primarily allocated for such bedroom in a home not occupied by member of the household and kept primarily for guest.
A KITCHEN is enclosure within the building used for cooking and preparations.
A LAUNDRY This is a room where clothes are washed, the laundry is equipped with washing machine, clothes dryers, ironing board and large basins.
LIVING ROOM OR LOUNGE is a space in a residential house used for relaxing and socializing.
LOBBIES: This are corridors or halls connected with a larger room or series of rooms and used as a passage way.
Study room: Is a room in a house which is used for paper work, computer or for reading.
STAIR WELL: Is a space in a building in which the stairs are built.
A DINING ROOM is a room that is used mainly for eating meals.
